Our Story

Throughout his childhood in the small village of Konongo-Odumasi, Ghana, Edward “Eddie” Opoku lived the saying “BeHappy.” There, he had no choice but to be happy with each day.

Fate had it that Eddie was accepted to the Right to Dream Academy, and he realized how lucky he was to be one of very few kids who had the chance to succeed through soccer at the Academy.

Following Right to Dream, Eddie played NCAA soccer at the University of Virginia where he met Caroline Biondo, who shared the same vision of working with kids, especially in less developed countries. They spent a lot of time planning how to create and spread more positivity, not just in Virginia, but also in Ghana.

As a result, they founded BeHappy.

BeHappy started with printing and selling t-shirts, with all proceeds going to providing school supplies and soccer equipment for children in Eddie’s village. BeHappy also started sponsoring a Christmas fundraising food drive for the people living in Konongo-Odumasi.

BeHappy officially incorporated as a nonprofit in 2023 to promote the idea that to BeHappy is to make every day a happy one.
